The Childminder Professional Development project has been developed with experts at the Professional Association for Childcare and Early Years (PACEY) to support the development of outstanding inclusive practice.

Extensive, bespoke and affordable, the programme is designed to help childminders raise the aspirations, access and achievement of all children, including looked-after children, children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and children who may be vulnerable to poor outcomes.

The programme is online and self-contained accessible for up to one year – containing a wealth of knowledge and experience of how to support every child to reach their potential.

It consists of:

  • Two interactive modules, Parents in Partnerships and Working in Wider Child-Centred Partnerships, with unlimited access to related research, advice and articles
  • 10 hours of self-directed online learning and 40 hours of extended study
  • The use of research and video footage showing real life examples of good practice in supporting vulnerable children
  • Access to a specialist coach who can answer questions about the course by email

Childminder Impact

Over the years, childminders have shown a high level of interest in our programmes, expressing their desire for access to professional development opportunities. They have shown us that there is a need to support them to further develop their skills, particularly when it comes to caring for the most disadvantaged children.

Once the programme is completed, participants are able to record their learning in an ‘evidence of change in practice’ form and download a certificate of completion for their records.

In future, we also hope to be able to offer wider opportunities through the programme, such as peer networking and group coaching.

Childminder Programme Testimonials

“Cuts to council-run training and support in the sector mean the onus is now on childminders to identify and fund training for themselves. Achievement for All’s new training programme aims to offer childminders the tools to make real changes in their provision and have a positive impact for every child”

Theresa Johnson, Training and Development Manager, PACEY

The programme is hosted on the PACEY website and costs £49.99, with a 10% discount for PACEY members. This fee provides access to the programme for one year and the option to renew on an annual basis after that, when new material will be added.
