The Achievement for All programme has been part St Mary’s RC Primary School for over 3 years and the school are  delighted to have been awarded the Quality Lead Award this month .

The governors noted that  ‘one of the most important benefits from the Achievement for All programme is the strengthening of the school’s capacity to access research , and take an evidence -based approach to improving outcomes and attainment for all children. This support to the head teacher in the delivery of a school improvement programme has strengthened conversations , and enabled the governing body to pursue  a range of interventions that have added value and plan appropriate , approaches to take’.

Governors and staff use the Bubble to access a range of information, which in turn has provided CPD opportunities for staff and Governors.  This has proved very helpful in understanding the way the school was approaching issues holistically and ensured that appropriate questions were asked. For example , the introduction to Governance for Inclusion proved to have useful research for discussions , providing inclusive learning opportunities,  and guidance about legal obligations for SEND provision . Governors found the AFA website helpful in ‘flagging up’ new areas for consideration , such as digital literacy . They found the blogs helpful , particularly  on such issues as wellbeing and mental health – an area that has increased an importance in developing professional understanding of educational best practice  at St Mary’s. All of this sits neatly alongside  the skilled coaching support ,and structured approach to inclusive leadership which dovetailed  the development needs of the staff team .

Whilst recognising St Mary’s is part of a large MAT , there is an exciting vibe in the school that strives to allow some important , considered individual differences in provision , this has determined , and influenced many wonderful opportunities with new challenges for children to take on , within a safe secure environment.

An example of this is the Outdoor Learning Programme across the school , whose key principle of environmental awareness , creativity , wild skills, advocacy, wider community, nature knowledge , reflection and spirituality and curriculum enhancement (including alpaca therapy!) Provides children with the opportunity to develop socially , emotionally, and physically.

Other schools are benefitting from hearing and seeing the work undertaken at St Mary’s RC Primary School , and the support  the staff provide for other teachers and providers is noteworthy , as noted during the Quality Lead Accreditation .
