Well of course you are! Your new intake of children will be here before you know it and you will want to get them off to the best possible start in September.
The Summer of Literacy challenge for new intake reception year children offers an excellent transition activity of 20- 30 musical minutes which include a story or rhyme and 3 Boogie Mites songs that can be accessed for free when you sign up to take part. The songs play with children’s names using alliteration games and cover phoneme blending and segmenting in a fun song called Let’s Tap a Word, linking to a chosen story or rhyme, then a Goodbye song uses Makaton and foreign languages to extend communication skills.
Regular practice of these activities not only covers your Phase 1 Letters and Sounds aims for September and October, it can also generate your musical minutes and reading minutes to log for the AFA Summer of Literacy – and the more minutes the more likely you will win a prize for the class!
