Across the 2014-15 academic year we collected data from 20 CLA focussed STEEP sessions and conducted a thematic analysis of the barriers and solutions to the educational achievement of children looked after and care leavers that were identified.

Various approaches were used including:

  • Single stakeholder groups including children looked after, designated teachers, foster carers or social workers
  • Multi stakeholder groups including representation from all the groups above
  • Schools in the same vicinity holding joint sessions
  • Primary and secondary schools using STEEP to focus on transition
