This resource is based on a toolkit that was compiled by an Educational Psychologist and Achievement Coach as part of the London Fostering Achievement project, in consultation with Virtual School Heads from nine London boroughs, the Fostering Network and the Greater London Authority Children in Care Steering Group. The resource has been designed to be used by schools to supplement Achievement for All methodology and materials, through providing information and guidance that relates specifically to the needs of Children Looked After.
You can download the original toolkit in full here:
During and since the project, the toolkit has been used for reference by Achievement Coaches, Virtual School Heads, school leaders, teachers and other professionals, providing information around current legislation, research and evidenced based practice to improve educational outcomes for Children Looked After.
The London Fostering Achievement project was delivered in partnership between Achievement for All and The Fostering Network, funded by the Mayor of London as part of the London Schools Excellence Fund.
Note on terminology
For the purposes of this toolkit, we are using the term Children Looked After (CLA) to refer to children and young people under the age of eighteen who are looked after by the local authority, either because they are on a care order or they are accommodated through a voluntary agreement with their parents.
