Achievement for All is asking you to help us stem the rising mental health crisis in schools today by donating at least a pound to our March of Pounds campaign.
What is March of Pounds?
A campaign to raise £1.5m to address the mental health crisis in our schools by extending the reach of the Achievement for All (AfA) ‘Achieving Wellbeing’ and ‘Emotion Coaching’ programmes in England and Wales.
March of Pounds will support leaders, teachers, parents, and carers in over 500 schools and settings to reduce the increasing swell in the numbers of children with mental health issues.
Why do we need it?
The emotional wellbeing of a child or young person has a significant impact, not only on their mental health, but also their academic achievement and levels of progress. Simply put, an anxious or angry mind will not learn
90% of schools leaders have reported an increase in the number of students experiencing anxiety, stress, low mood or depression, with three children in every classroom having a diagnosable mental disorder.
In the first half of the twentieth century, March of Dimes– a high profile campaign which saw the public flood the White House with 2,680,000 dimes and thousands of dollars in donations in support of FD Roosevelt’s desire to eradicate polio – funded the introduction of a vaccine to prevent the disease.
Unlike other diseases, a vaccine will not address the issue of mental health. Training, understanding and support will. We are taking the inspiration of Roosevelt’s March of Dimes to launch our March of Pounds Campaign to tackle the pervading illness amongst our young people over one hundred years later!
We hope you will help – every pound counts!
The Achieving Wellbeing programme is an evidence-based, Achievement for All programme that enables schools to unlock academic achievement and accelerate progress for pupils by improving their emotional wellbeing and mental health.
Supported by qualified professionals, the Achieving Wellbeing programme is planned and implemented in partnership with schools by trained coaches who deliver face-to-face support and training to all staff.
The Emotion Coaching programme, developed by Achievement for All with the support of Emotion Coaching UK, draws on the latest neuroscientific research to support whole setting understanding, implementation and development of this attachment-based approach to improving wellbeing and attainment. Emotion Coaching gives every adult in the school a practical tool for managing behaviour and nurturing self-regulation in all learners and has demonstrated measurable positive impact on the whole school community, including families.
What can you do to help?
Help us by donating to our March of Pounds campaign.
We aim to reach at least 500 more schools this year, delivering Achievement Wellbeing in schools across England and Wales. The cost of the programme is just £3,000 per school per year, yet its effect is transformational - impacting on all staff, parents, carers and children.
£3,000 will enable us to support one school (with up to an average of 948 children per secondary school, and 281 children per primary school)
With £30,000 we will reach 10 schools, £300,000 and we can reach 100 schools
With the equivalent of the 2,680,000 dimes raised by FD Roosevelt in pounds, we can reach 893 schools.
Remember - every pound counts! Please give what you can here.
The Achievement for All March of Pounds Campaign is already supported by leading educators and we are keen to encourage the support of other public, corporate, charity and private donors.
