Date: Monday 1st April 2019

Venue: The Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff

Time: 12.00 – 14:00

The Minister for Education, Kirsty Williams AM, is hosting a lunch reception at The Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on Monday 1st April 2019, to discuss and debate ways to effectively support the needs of Looked after Children within schools in Wales.

The two-hour reception, which will commence at 12:00, will include guest contributions from the Minister for Education and Sonia Blandford, CEO, Achievement for All alongside practical examples of best practice from those working with Looked after Children across Wales.

The event will also see the launch of a new FREE digital Looked after Children in education resource for Wales.

Designed by Achievement for All, funded by the Welsh Government and based on Children Looked After Friendly Schools resources created by Rhondda Cynon Taf and Merthyr Tydfil Local Authorities, the tool will enable schools across the country to implement Looked after Children friendly strategies and systems to ensure the best possible outcome for this most vulnerable group.

2018 saw an 8% increase in the number of Looked after Children across Wales, many of whom will have experienced abuse, neglect and multiple placements in their lives.  It has never been more important for us to come together to support these children and young people.
