Achievement for All’s Core Strength is a unique approach to accelerating academic progress amongst vulnerable and disadvantaged learners - closing the performance gap in education settings, raising standards and, ultimately, driving social mobility.
The leadership development and professional training programme strikes at the very heart of learning and achievement, at every age and phase, by building on the latest neuroscience and psychological research and addressing all the factors identified by the Education Endowment Foundation as effective strategies to improve cognitive, non-cognitive (essential life skills) as well as resilience and self-efficacy.
The programme offers education settings a multitude of routes to secure better outcomes by ensuring all children and young people are given the confidence and ability to learn, develop and participate in society.
What is involved?
A comprehensive audit process to support the prioritisation and identification of the right improvement path, matched to a setting’s current strengths and identified areas for further development
A plethora of training and professional development tools and approaches to support CPD activity, for individual teaching and support staff as well as teams within the school community
Age and phase-specific cognitive development frameworks that are easy for children and young people (as well as staff) to understand and apply to unlock the potential of informal and non-formal learning opportunities outside the classroom and beyond the school gate.
What Impact could be achieved?
Teaching professionals are able to deepen their understanding of the impact that social and structural disadvantage and SEN have on cognitive development and thus academic achievement
Teachers and learning support staff deploy a range of tools to accelerate learning, in targeted, small group and whole class ways
Vulnerable and disadvantaged learners are able to demonstrably close the gap on their peers, resulting in improved standards
Children and young people feel better equipped with lifelong learning skills for employment and for life.
Core Strength is supported by 24/7 access to ‘The Achievement for All Bubble’ (online professional development portal) including interactive materials to support the cascading of Emotional Coaching training in your school or setting.
Free Core Strength resources
During the lockdown summer of 2020, Achievement for All worked in partnership with the community sports provider StreetGames to provide a programme of meaningful, skill-building activity for children and young people in the Newcastle area who were in receipt of free meals during the school holidays.
These resources are freely available to all education settings: Please get in touch if you feel you would like to access a coach-led training plan to help consolidate and embed their use.
